The Mamas and the Papas, groupe de rock américain, est originaire de Los Angeles et a connu le succès entre 1965 et 1968. Le groupe est composé de John Phillips, Cass Elliot (Mama Cass), Denny Doherty et Michelle Phillips. Ils se sont formés à partir des groupes de folk The New Journeymen et Mugwumps d'où sont issus les groupes The Lovin' Spoonful et The Mamas and the Papas. Leur premier album, "If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears", contient leurs deux morceaux les plus connus, "California Dreamin'" et "Monday, Monday". Le groupe a rencontré des conflits liés aux relations entre Michelle Phillips et Denny Doherty.
